Bogart Avenue

Bogart Ave

This is one of the many avenues that were laid out after the Morris Park Racetrack was razed and the land prepared for the present day neighborhood. The photo above shows the early work laying out Morris Park Avenue.

The street is likely named after John Bogart who served as the chief engineer of Washington Bridge. Bogart is the Anglicized form of Bogardus, a prominent family in colonial New York and New Amsterdam. The family includes generals, artists and early clergymen.

You know what's way more exciting than reading my boring history lesson though? Going and finding stuff out about a place you love. The links below are a good start. Let me know what you find!
